YMCA Programs for Teens

YMCAs are for people of all ages, incomes and abilities. Half of YMCAs' members nationwide are under age 18. YMCAs give teens a safe place to call their own, a chance to connect with adults who care about them and an opportunity to get involved in programs that help them grow, such as:

Future Leaders Club

The Countryside YMCA is committed to helping young people build their futures. Our programs help teens learn how to express themselves come together for common cause and to be active and informed citizens. Leaders Club involves teens in community service projects. The YMCA provides leadership training, service to others and social development. Through YMCA youth programs, teenagers focus on leadership development, personal growth, service to others, and social development. The result is for youths to build character through the promotion of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility.

Pre-Teen and Teen programs objectives are:
" To raise the academic standards of youth
" To expose students to diverse career options
" To provide positive role models for youth
" To recognize and promote excellence
" To help teen understand the importance of education and their own role in social necessary resources to achieve academic success

Program benefits:
" Youth are motivated to succeed in school and gain a positive sense of self
" Teaches youth to be respectable to their peer
" Gives youth a safe place to call their won
" Building relationships
" Youth learn the importance of being responsible and involved citizen

Young people have more fun and learn more when they can take the lead in planning and directing their own programs and the YMCA provides this opportunity. This club is designed for teens aged 7-13 and meet on the 1st and 3rd Monday of every month, with having the summer off. The cost is $5.00 per 5 week session. A club for older teens ages 13-18 will be formed once we have more teens interested. For more information about Teen Clubs call Jeni Moore at 932-1424 ext. 153 or Phyllis Crosley ext. 226 or e-mail at jenimoo@countrysideymca.org.
