Preschool Swim Lessons

If your child has not participated in a progressive program before, he/she must be pre-tested for class assignment. Often times, class placement can be achieved over the phone. Other times, a child must be tested in the water. Please call Beth Benner or Karla Roberds (513-932-1424 x 152) for YMCA Swim Lessons pre-testing.

Parent/Child Classes last 30 minutes.

Kippers
By teaching parents to serve as instructors, we orient the 6-24 month old child to the water and develop beginning swimming skills. Class time will be structured with water and pool orientation, introduction to beginning swimming and structured water play. This is a family program and both parents are encouraged to attend. Potty training is not necessary, however, swim diapers are a must. No disposable diapers please.
Ages 6-24 months.

Shrimps
The parent/child program is for toddlers ages 2 years having progressed from the "Kippers" level and/or for 2 and 3 year olds with no previous swimming instruction. Class time will be structured to accommodate water acclimation, introduction to beginning swimming skills and guided discovery. The "Shrimp" level is a prerequisite for 3 year olds progressing to "Pike" level. Parents will accompany "Shrimps" into the water. "Shrimps" need not be potty trained, however, swim diapers are a must. NO disposable diapers please.
Ages 2-3.

Pikes w/Parents
This level is the bridge between Parent/Child and Preschool swimming lessons. Pikes w/Parents will cover all the same skills as the Pike level with parental supervision in the water. The goal of the Pikes w/Parents level is to prepare the preschool swimmer to independently and comfortably participate in the Pike level. It is recommended that children ages 3 to Kindergarten participate in Pikes w/Parents and receive approval from their instructor in order to register for the Pike level. If you feel your child meets the prerequisites for the Pike level and is age 3 years to Kindergarten, you will need to contact the Swim Lesson Coordinators at extension 152 to arrange a swimming pre-test. Upon completion of Pikes w/Parents and your child is a minimum of 3 years, they may be placed in either a Pike or Eel level depending upon their skill level. Please use swim diapers only. Both parents are welcome to attend class.
Ages 3 years - Kindergarten
