Sports Camps

 

Camp Countryside will offer 12 weeks of incredible co-ed sport camps designed to provide each camper with the specific instruction needed to (1) learn the game or (2) to develop the skills needed to improve their game. Each week we provide a morning schedule of skill development drills and games being lead by a former college players, professional instructors or present high school players. Camps are geared to handle players of all skill levels.  The afternoons will be filled with regular summer camp fun. These activities may include Frisbee golf, badminton, volleyball, dodgeball, climbing wall, basketball and other activities.

 

Campers have the option of signing up for the morning sport specific activities only. Every Thursday afternoon all sport camp participants will be given the opportunity to come together to make new friends by enjoying the movie of the week or playing board games  as part of the afternoon schedule. Field days are included in the price for the baseball camp and 2 of the 3 tennis camps.

BASEBALL

(ages 8-12)  Weeks 2 & 7

Camp will include morning instruction and practice in the fundamentals of baseball such as pitching, fielding, catching and hitting. 

 

SOCCER CAMP

(ages 8-12)  Weeks 5 & 11

Campers will participate in soccer drills and games in the morning. Emphasis will be placed on soccer fundamentals and game skills.

 

FUTSAL CAMP

(ages 8-12)   Week 9

(Fut) Spanish Word for soccer (SAL) Spanish word for indoor.  Futsal is a great skill-developer, demanding quick reflexes, fast thinking and pinpoint passing. Great soccer superstars such as Pele, Zico and Socates grew up playing the game and credit FUTSAL with developing their skills. Futsal is played with a special low bounce ball, necessitating players to use their skills rather than the balls bounce to propel it. The morning FUTSAL will be lead by DAVE WOESTE from Dave Woeste Soccer School.

 

TAE KWON DO

(ages 8-15)   Week 6

Tae Kwon Do is a Korean-style martial art. It is a well-balanced style that specializes in kicking skills. Master Kim and associates from the I.K. Kim Tae Kwon Do Centers will run the morning program. Emphasis will be placed on overall self-improvement, self control and discipline as well as physical fitness, self defense, balance, flexibility and strength.

 

GIRL’S RECREATIONAL VOLLEYBALL

(grades 1st-3rd)   Week 1

(grades 4th- 6th)   Week 6

The morning volleyball activities will be lead by Karen Miranda. Karen is a former Division I setter at Illinois State University who helped lead her team to a 30-2 record her senior season, advancing to the top 16 in the NCAA National Championships. Thirteen years experience.

 

TENNIS

(ages 8-12)   Weeks 4, 10 & 11

Morning activities will be lead by a tennis instructor from the Five Season Tennis club. The weeks of 8/9/10 & 8/16/10 will also include a one day field trip to the tennis tournament at the Lindner Family Tennis Center.

 

LACROSSE

(ages 8-12)   Weeks 4 & 8

Lead instructors will include players from Lebanon Lacrosse clubs. Camp will include instruction in basic stick skills and basic rules of the game. 

 

BASKETBALL

(ages 8-12)   Weeks 2 & 5

 Learn the fundamentals from a pro – morning drills lead by Sherwin Anderson. Two-year captain at Xavier University. Member of Harlem Globe Trotters. Nike consultant in Asia. Experienced trainer since 2000.

 

FOOTBALL

(ages 8-12) Weeks 3 & 9

Various skills and fundamentals of the game will be implemented through practice drills and scrimmages. 

 

SPORTS CHALLENGE

(ages 8-12)   Weeks 2, 8, 9 & 12

Each week the sports challenge camper will participate in a number of different games. The games may include flag football, kickball, wiffleball, wallyball, floor hockey, ultimate Frisbee.

 

VIRTUAL SPORTS (Wii)

(ages 8-12)   Weeks 1, 5, 7 & 10 

Each day campers will compete against each other in a virtual competition on Nintendo Wii. The games include tennis, Frisbee, golf, baseball and cardio kickboxing.  Each afternoon they will join other campers to participate in other fun games.

 

SKATEBOARD

(ages 8-15)   Week 6

Each morning campers will receive instruction from our staff and have plenty of time to practice skills at our skate park. Please bring skateboard, pads and helmet.

 

KIDzFIT

(ages 8-12)   Weeks 3, 6 & 9

Campers will work out and have fun doing spinning, Kids Strive circuit training, aerobics and more in this camp designed to show the value of fitness.

 

RACQUETBALL

(ages 8-12)   Week 4

This camp will instruct the basic rules such as serving, returning the serve, the rally and hinders.  Campers will participate in several different racquetball games you can play. 

 

ULTIMATE FRISBEE

(ages 8-12)   Week 1

A limited contact team sport played with a flying disc.  Campers will learn the rules of the game, strategies, tactics, and the spirit of the game. 

 

FLOOR HOCKEY

(ages 8-12)   Weeks 7 & 11

This camp will instruct fundamentals of passing, shooting, and rules of the sport.  It is recommended that campers bring shin guards

 

DODGEBALL

(ages 8-12)   Weeks 3 & 10

Camper will learn the basic rules of dodgeball.  Campers will participate in several variations of the basic dodgeball game.

 

FLAG FOOTBALL

(ages 8-12)   Week 10

Camp will feature drills, conditioning and activities along with a full week of games and practices in our indoor sports arena.

BOWLING

(ages 8-12)   Weeks 1, 4, 8 &11

Each day campers will travel to Mason Bowl and bowl several games in the morning, Campers may bring money for the snack bar.

 

GOLF

(ages 8-15)   Weeks 3 & 7

PGA member Pam Rothermund will instruct kids in proper swing technique and the fundamentals of the game. Each day campers will travel to Southwest Golf Ranch or Harmon Golf course. Please bring clubs if you have them, clubs can be provided if needed.

Camp Countryside is proud to offer 11 weeks of Wee Sports camps for the young athlete looking to learn the skills needed for each sport. Every morning skills will be developed through fun drills and games. The afternoons will include lunch, swimming and many opportunities for each camper to have fun with friends through summer camp activities. Every Thursday the campers will join the other sport camps to watch a movie or participate in crafts and board games.

 

WEE BASEBALL

Week 7

Focus on the basics in this camp designed for beginners in the sport of baseball.

 

WEE SOCCER CAMP

Weeks 1 & 10

Designed specifically for younger players. A week of instruction on basic skills and fundamental of the game.

 

WEE FOOTBALL

Week 5

Get a solid introduction to football from experienced players and coaches with a focus on basic formation, position and movement.

 

WEE GOLF

Week 11

The Start Smart Golf system will be used to help introduce each camper to the basic skills needed to golf. Campers will be taught setup, grip, stance and swing cues.

 

WEE BASKETBALL

Weeks 3 & 12

Get a solid foundation in dribbling skills, passing, and shooting technique.

 

WEE TENNIS

Week 9

Learn proper stance and the basic rules of the game in this camp designed to introduce Tennis to younger players.

 

WEE TAE KWON DO

Week 6

This camp will join with our other Tae Kwon Do camp and meet in our indoor sports arena.
