Acting Theatre I Countryside Acting Troupe (C.A.T.)
The Countryside Acting Troupe provides quality theatre education and performance opportunities in a supportive and nurturing environment. Students ages 7 to 17 explore theatre through the study of acting, movement, and music/voice. Class format allows students of all skill levels the opportunity to audition for a production, learn acting techniques, and perform onstage in theatrical productions. Theatre encourages students to go beyond their perceived limitations and discover the magic of acting. Students are grouped by age and skill level. They learn and perform pieces appropriate for their level. Students learn theatre fundamentals and have fun without the pressure of a professional theatre company.
Here are some program notes about Acting Theater:
The Fall/Winter Session: Theatre Performance. During the fall and winter sessions, students focus on a large-scale production. The program begins with auditions and culminates in onstage performance at the Lebanon Junior High. The Winter/Fall Session includes extra classes and a dress rehearsal on location. Click here for photos of past performances.
- Spring I/II Session: Performing Art Class. During the spring, students of all skills levels are encouraged to join the Performing Arts Class which spans tens weeks starting Spring One. Students will develop their acting skills through monologues, improvisation and scene work. Together we will create a small performance. Spring classes are on Thursday only. No auditions required for this class.
- Audition Preparation. Auditions are intended to be fun and provide students with audition practice in a comfortable learning environment. Here are some highlights of the audition process:
- All participants will get a part in the show.
- Students should be prepared to read samples from the script.
- Younger children should be able to read at a first grade level.
- Students should be dressed comfortably.
- Parents, guardians and siblings are not permitted in the audition room.
- Students wishing to sing at the audition should select a piece of music in a style that showcases their voice. It can be sung to recorded music or acappella. Singing at the audition is optional.
- Student and Parent Responsibilities
- Good attendance is necessary to stay eligible to perform in the theatre production. Students are expected to attend all classes and rehearsals.
- Students are asked to attend all workshops to prepare for the productions. This includes building sets and getting fit for costumes.
- Students should learn the script and bring it to each class. Parents can help children learn lines.
- After class, students are responsible for putting away props.
- Parents should bring their child to the audition and wait for him or her to finish.
